Overview

At Riseup Labs, we believe that true innovation shines when tested under the toughest conditions. That’s why we’re thrilled to share the incredible success of the second round of User Acceptance Testing (UAT-2) for the Let Us Learn” project, conducted on January 2, 2025, in partnership with Unicef.

This milestone underscores our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that empower education and create a lasting impact on underserved communities.

Breaking Barriers in Remote Education

The second round of UAT session was conducted in Mirpur, Chandrima Road, Shewrapara, a remote area in Dhaka. This location was chosen strategically to evaluate the system’s performance under challenging real-world conditions, including intermittent network stability.

This User Acceptance Testing wasn’t just about technology—it was about ensuring that every child and educator, regardless of location, can benefit from robust and reliable tools designed for impactful learning and reporting.

A Snapshot of the Day

The day started early with the dedicated team assembled at the designated location. Key participants included:

  • The Admin of Dhaka Zone
  • Program Officer
  • Technical Officer
  • Project Director
  • Four skilled members from Riseup Labs

Their combined expertise ensured a comprehensive and insightful testing process. With the bustling Mirpur community as a backdrop, our team dove into the task with utmost enthusiasm and determination.

What Happened During UAT-2?

The UAT-2 session was designed to be as close to real-world conditions as possible. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the day’s activities:

Initial Setup and Briefing

The team conducted a quick briefing session to align on the objectives and testing plan for the day. This included reviewing the key functionalities of the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) feature and discussing how to handle potential challenges like network interruptions.

Testing the M&E Feature

Field staff simulated real-world scenarios by inputting predefined observations into the M&E system during mock center visits. The focus was on ensuring that the feature could:

  • Capture accurate data efficiently.
  • Handle multiple user inputs simultaneously without lag.
  • Save data securely, even when connectivity was unstable.

Network Stability Assessment

The team intentionally tested the system’s performance under varying network conditions. Using tools to simulate intermittent connectivity, they evaluated how well the offline mode functioned and how quickly data synchronized once the connection was restored.

Gathering Real-Time Feedback

Participants provided immediate feedback on the system’s usability, design, and overall functionality. This feedback was documented to inform future enhancements.

Collaboration and Problem-Solving

Any issues or unexpected challenges were addressed on-site by the Riseup Labs team, ensuring a smooth testing process and immediate resolution of minor bugs.

Wrap-Up and Debriefing

The day concluded with a debriefing session where the team summarized key findings, noted areas for improvement, and celebrated the successes of the session.

Why UAT-2 Matters?

User Acceptance Testing is more than a technical checkbox; it’s a critical step in aligning technology with real-world user needs. For this UAT-2 session, our focus was on two key objectives:

  1. Validating Feature Performance: The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) feature is a game-changer for this project. Designed to empower ground-level staff, it enables them to record predefined observations during center visits. Testing this feature in a live environment ensured its usability and reliability.
  2. Evaluating Network Stability: Remote areas often face network challenges, and our system must rise above these limitations. By conducting tests in Shewrapara, we assessed how well the system performs when faced with fluctuating connectivity.

Key Highlights of UAT-2

Here’s what stood out during the second round of UAT:

  • Testing Location: Mirpur, Chandrima Road, Shewrapara—selected for its remote setting to replicate real-world conditions and test network resilience.
  • Feature in Focus: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) — a tool enabling field staff to record and manage observations efficiently during visits, even with intermittent connectivity.
  • Purpose: Evaluating both feature functionality and system performance under challenging network conditions, ensuring it meets the needs of end-users.
  • Team Collaboration: A multidisciplinary team from various roles contributed, including program and technical officers, project directors, and Riseup Labs members, ensuring holistic insights.

Voices from the Field

Hearing from those at the heart of this project is always inspiring. Here’s what Rakib Hasan Dipu (Sr. Product Manager, Riseup Labs) had to say:

“It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our hard work come to life. Watching the system perform seamlessly in these conditions is a proud moment for all of us.”

What’s Next for “Let Us Learn”?

With the second round of UAT successfully completed, the next steps include:

  • Analyzing detailed feedback from the testing session to fine-tune the system.
  • Preparing for the final rollout phase, ensuring that the platform’s performance exceeds expectations.
  • Conducting further training sessions for field staff to maximize the platform’s impact.

A Heartfelt Thank You!

None of this would have been possible without the collective efforts of our incredible team and partners.

We extend our deepest gratitude to UNICEF and all the local participants who contributed their valuable time and insights. Together, we aim to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and educators across Bangladesh.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this incredible journey.
