In its latest achievement, Riseup Labs has once again signed with Aspire to Innovate (a2i) to develop the Teacher’s Portal website, this time for the Republic of Uganda.
Teachers’ Portal (Shikkhok Batayon), a renowned and highly acclaimed platform launched by a2i and the Ministry of Education, was recognized as a top 5 Champion Project at the UN’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2024) this month. Riseup Labs has had the honor of being a longstanding partner in this project, collaborating on the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the website’s features and functionalities.
Now, in collaboration with a2i, Riseup Labs is set to build this web system for the Republic of Uganda through a brand-new partnership. This milestone success, alongside the recent recognition awarded to the Teachers’ Portal, marks a significant achievement for Riseup Labs. The company celebrates its success and looks forward to recreating the platform, this time for the advancement of the education sector in Uganda.

What is Teachers’ Portal?
Teachers’ Portal, also known as Shikkhok Batayon, is a comprehensive platform for educators across the country. It provides access to valuable resources, skill development courses, and opportunities to disseminate knowledge. Designed as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) platform, it aims to empower teachers through professional skill enhancement. This innovative platform offers a modern alternative to traditional teaching methods, extending its reach and impact.
As its core functionalities, the platforms enable creating, sharing, and accessing multimedia educational content. Additionally, the website hosts online forums and connects teachers to online training programs, enhancing their teaching skills and methodologies.
Teachers’ Portal’s Contribution to the SDGs
Teachers’ Portal is the result of extensive research, planning, and development. It bridges the digital divide and addresses the urgent need to leverage technology for educational advancement. Moreover, the platform aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its contribution to quality education (SDG 4).
Importantly, the platform offers great potential for inclusive and equitable education, a key benefit of technology-enabled learning. The tool aims to increase the use of technology in teaching practices, thereby enhancing students’ skill development. This has the cascading impact of addressing the digital divide, enabling equal opportunities, and nurturing a tech-savvy community of learners. Additionally, these outcomes reinforce SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
