What is Pohela Falgun?

Pohela Falgun, known as the first day of Spring in the Bengali month of Falgun, is a festival that is celebrated in Bangladesh. The tradition was started in 1991 by Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts students. Typically, the first day of Falgun falls on the 13th of February in the Gregorian calendar. Still, since changes were made to the Bangla calendar, Pohela Falgun is now celebrated on the 14th of February from 2020 onwards. In Bangladesh, the festival is also celebrated as Basanta Utsab.
