Her Power: Empowerment of Women Through ICT Frontier Initiative

Her Power is an initiative to empower Bangladeshi women through IT and digital skill training and fostering self-sufficiency. It is specifically designed for women from rural Bangladesh who struggle to avail resources and mentorship to compete in the current job market.

Riseup Labs, in collaboration with the ICT Division of Bangladesh, trained 960 women from 12 upazilas in the Rajshahi division, providing courses in Graphic Design, Web Development, and Digital Marketing across three phases, over 18 months.

Training Modules

The program spans six months.

4 months dedicated to subject-specific coursework
1 month focused on English proficiency and buyer communication.
1 month of mentorship: first-hand training on leveraging skills in local and global freelance marketplaces

Riseup Labs trained a total of 960 women under the 'Women Freelancer' category.

Graphic Design: 480 students.
Web Development: 240 students.
Digital Marketing: 240 students.

Laptop and Allowance

Her Power is dedicated to underprivileged women from remote areas of Bangladesh. It is nearly impossible for them to afford the devices needed to learn and earn through the mentioned digital skills. To overcome financial barriers, each participant received a high-configuration laptop for skill development and future empowerment. Additionally, a monthly travel allowance was provided.

By equipping women with in-demand digital skills, this project is paving the path to women’s financial independence and bridges the gender gap in the tech industry, fostering inclusivity.

Introduction to Marketplace

In the mentorship phase, with the support of Riseup Labs’ mentors, the female learners get first-hand experience in creating accounts, navigating the freelance marketplaces, communicating with clients, and boosting their profile or business.

Dual Training Format

Besides giving in-person training, the program also made the training materials available online to help them with 24/7 access to the learning materials.
