Overview
The Adolescent Nutrition Central Reporting System, developed for UNICEF Bangladesh, is an interoperable online platform that monitors and records the progress of adolescent nutrition programs. Also integrated with the Health, Education, and Social Protection programs, this system provides automated, timely, clear, and accessible reports, enhancing program monitoring and decision-making.
UNICEF Bangladesh teamed with Riseup Labs to develop this Adolescent Nutrition Central Reporting System Platform. The app and web version of the platform will facilitate data management and monitoring for the UNICEF’s integrated programs.
The Challenge
Lack of a centralized data management system
Adolescent nutrition plays a vital role in a child’s growth, emotional development, concentration, and school performance. It also has a lasting impact, shaping their future success well beyond their teenage years. To address these needs, UNICEF runs several public health programs in primary and secondary schools across Bangladesh focusing on nutrition education, illness prevention and promoting a balanced diet.
To manage these initiatives effectively, the Adolescent Nutrition Central Reporting System was created, both in the form of a website and a mobile app, as a platform for teachers to record data on progress, program efficacy, and other key metrics.
Key challenges that highlighted the need for this system include:
- Managing large volumes of data effectively.
- Turning big data into actionable insights for decision-making.
- Establishing metrics and KPIs to measure program success.
- Enhancing program outcomes through data-driven strategies.
- Improving reporting and monitoring processes.
The Solution
Leveraging big data analytics for enhanced reporting
Riseup Labs, with its impressive record of supporting development initiatives, developed this comprehensive platform for UNICEF. The Adolescent Nutrition Central Reporting System integrates tools like Apache Hadoop and MongoDB, utilizing the latest data analytics techniques to generate valuable insights. Available in both app and web formats, it also helps convey knowledge, training materials, and manuals to a greater number of users.
Riseup Labs developed this robust reporting system through the following implementation.
- Optimizing big data management with Apache Hadoop and MongoDB.
- Enhancing visualization and reporting with advanced analytics.
- Developing web and mobile applications for nutrition monitoring.
- Integrating digital content for training and knowledge sharing.
- Creating user-friendly video manuals with using Adobe Premiere Pro.
The Impact
Improved monitoring and outcomes across thousands of institutions
Adolescent Nutrition Central Reporting System plays a foundational role in streamlining the related programs of UNICEF. An userbase comprising of thousands of institutions bears testament to the platforms’ reach. Most importantly, the platform analyzes datasets to provide valuable insights, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of nutrition programs.
