Overview

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) are core to UNICEF programs. This is why UNICEF LACRO (Latin America and Caribbean Regional Office) sought an innovative solution to enhance its MHPSS services across the region. In support, Riseup Labs has developed a unified content management system (UCMS) platform for the MHPSS programs, which cater to children, adolescents, and caregivers across the region.

Digital platforms can greatly enhance program impact by enabling the replication of proven methods, leveraging past insights, adopting local practices, and, most importantly, measuring program success. Moreover, the UCMS for the MHPSS programs will also be compatible with RapidPro and IoGT content, two popular platforms used by UNICEF.

The Challenge

Addressing the need for a unified content management system.

UNICEF programs strive to constantly adapt to community needs, implementing practices for maximum impact. This includes the use of innovative digital tools and technologies. UNICEF LACRO identified a gap in resources and communication tools for MHPSS. Moreover, a unified content management system or UCMS for managing, adapting, and translating MHPSS content on various platforms like RapidPro and the Internet of Good Things (IoGT) can significantly improve the content’s accessibility.

Unified Content Management System (UCMS) Unlocks Greater Reach for UNICEF's Mental Health Programs | Case Study The Solution

Below is a detailed breakdown of the initial as well as the development challenges relevant to UCMS.

  • Integration: Unifying platforms into a CMS, especially with legacy systems and third-party applications, is complex.
  • Data Integrity: Ensuring data integrity when transferring content between the CMS and RapidPro is crucial.
  • Permissions: Role-based permissions are vital for controlling access and editing.
  • Robust Version Control: Strong version control prevents conflicts during collaboration.

The Solution

Enabling seamless creation and management of resources with tailored insights.

In developing the UCMS, it was crucial to identify problem areas, map development challenges, and curate holistic solutions focused on flow creation, data handling, visualization, and security.
