Introduction
Adolescent nutrition affects individuals beyond their teenage years, influencing growth, wellness, and even school performance. To address nutrition-related challenges, UNICEF, in collaboration with Riseup Labs, launched the Adolescent Nutrition Training web and app platform as part of its public health and education programs in schools across Bangladesh.
The platform provides comprehensive training for teachers, equipping them with practical skills to manage adolescent nutrition. It covers nutrition-related illnesses, dietary habits, and food availability in Bangladesh to promote better nutritional practices among students. A complimentary online course is available for enrollment, developed by experts from NNS/IPHN, DSHE, and UNICEF.
The Challenge
Limited Access to Nutrition Education in Schools
UNICEF Bangladesh identified a significant gap in nutrition education within school curricula. Given that poverty contributes to poor nutrition among children, a comprehensive guideline is imperative. UNICEF’s Adolescent Nutrition Training platform addresses these challenges and enhances public health and education program outcomes.
The Adolescent Nutrition Training platform intends to tackle the following challenges identified by UNICEF Bangladesh:
- Make nutrition training easily available through an online platform
- Include engaging materials such as animations and infographics
- Integrate efficient data recording and management features
- Implement easy reporting systems
- Develop a robust and user-friendly training module
