A full-cycle AWS to Azure cloud migration and ongoing managed maintenance engagement for a critical internal operations platform serving UNICEF’s Rome Outpost – delivered with zero service disruption and a fully automated deployment pipeline.
UNICEF’s ECARO Rome Outpost relied on an internal OPS Web Application hosted on AWS to manage day-to-day operational workflows. As part of a broader infrastructure modernization initiative, they needed a trusted technology partner to migrate the platform to Microsoft Azure, harden its security posture, introduce deployment automation, and provide ongoing technical maintenance — all without disrupting live operations. Riseup Labs took full ownership of the engagement from architecture assessment through to post-migration maintenance, delivering a stable, secure, and modernized cloud environment across a 12-month project lifecycle.

End-to-End Infrastructure Migration & Ongoing Maintenance
We engineered a structured transition and support plan to migrate the OPS Web Application from AWS to Microsoft Azure, ensuring uninterrupted service, automation, and long-term system stability.
The team conducted a thorough review of the existing AWS architecture — analyzing the application stack, database layers, networking, and dependencies. This formed the foundation of a risk-mitigated migration roadmap with a phased cutover strategy to protect service continuity throughout the transition.
A fully automated CI/CD pipeline was built using Azure DevOps — handling code integration, build packaging, and deployment without manual intervention. This gave the team a reliable, repeatable release process and significantly reduced deployment risk on every update cycle.
The application was containerized using Docker, enabling consistent deployments across development and production environments. This reduced configuration drift, simplified rollbacks, and made the platform considerably easier to maintain and scale going forward.
A structured monthly maintenance cycle covered system health monitoring, proactive issue resolution, bug fixing, and performance optimization. Each cycle concluded with a formal technical report delivered to UNICEF stakeholders — ensuring full visibility into platform status, actions taken, and forward recommendations.
The full infrastructure was migrated from Amazon Web Services to Microsoft Azure, including environment re-provisioning, network reconfiguration, and PostgreSQL database migration from Amazon RDS. The cutover was executed with minimal downtime, keeping the application live and accessible for UNICEF staff throughout.
A dedicated post-migration security review identified vulnerabilities and applied targeted remediation — covering access control hardening, secrets management, network security group configuration, and dependency patching. Ongoing security updates were built into the monthly maintenance cycle to keep the platform protected throughout the engagement.
We leveraged the latest high-performance technologies and robust deployment pipelines to build this complex application.
Core backend language powering the application's logic and server-side operations.
Relational database managing the application's structured operational data.
Managed cloud database service hosting PostgreSQL on the pre-migration AWS infrastructure.
Containerization platform ensuring consistent, portable deployments across all environments.
Target cloud platform hosting the migrated infrastructure and all production services.
End-to-end DevOps toolchain used to build, test, and automate application deployments.
Whether you’re on AWS, GCP, or an aging on-premise setup, we’ve done this before — for clients where downtime isn’t an option. If your infrastructure needs a migration, a modernization, or just a team that actually keeps things running, let’s talk about what that looks like for you.
