Overview
GeTECD, or Gender Transformative Early Childhood Development, is an initiative by Plan International Bangladesh that promotes equal participation of both parents in child-rearing while fostering a gender-neutral environment. To advance this mission, Plan International Bangladesh partnered with Riseup Labs to create the GeTECD website—a central hub for resources, information, and engagement on healthy child development and gender equality.
The Challenge
Creating a user-friendly portal tailored for parents and adults with limited tech skills
Research shows that early childhood development plays a foundational role in the child’s physicals, cognitive and emotional growth. This project addresses the need for an easily accessible online resource for parents, especially rural parents and guardians. Such a resource has to be user-friendly, comprehensive and easily understandable with intuitive designs and features that cater to a less tech-savvy audience.
The Opportunity
Leveraging technology for equitable parenting and healthy child development in rural areas
This project presented the opportunity to bring knowledgeable digital resources for parents, especially rural parents via a user-friendly and engaging site. After all, technological advancements now provide a wide range of powerful, user-friendly tools for creating and sharing impactful, engaging and knowledgeable resources far and wide.

The Solution
Empowering parents with resources for healthy child development
Online resources can be a powerful tool when it comes to reaching and educating people. In developing digital tools, low tech savvy users, particularly parents are after often neglected. In order to reach this target group. we implemented several strategies to create an accessible resource on healthy parenting to foster healthy child development.

- Optimized integration of GeTECD web and app with Plan International Bangladesh’s SharePoint
- User-centric design to suit a user base primarily aged 25-30 and older
- Image enhancement using top graphic design principles to maintain quality across different ratios
- Accessibility considerations in case of fonts, colors, and sizes for better readability
- Integrating YouTube’s iframe for videos while optimizing large images to reduce server load
