Job Context:
Riseup Labs is hiring an experienced Team Lead – Image Annotation to oversee a team of Image Annotators working on an industrial quality-control project. You will be responsible for ensuring annotation quality, maintaining productivity targets, providing technical guidance, and serving as the primary point of contact between the annotation team and project management. Your leadership will directly contribute to the creation of high-quality training data for machine-learning models.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of Image Annotators throughout the project lifecycle
- Review annotated images to ensure compliance with annotation guidelines and quality standards
- Conduct regular quality audits and maintain annotation accuracy of ≥95% across the team
- Resolve annotation-related questions and provide guideline clarifications to team members
- Assign workloads, monitor daily productivity, and ensure project milestones are met
- Identify recurring annotation errors and conduct coaching sessions to improve team performance
- Flag ambiguous cases and escalate complex annotation issues to the project management or client when necessary
- Coordinate with QA and project stakeholders to implement guideline updates and process improvements
- Prepare daily and weekly progress, productivity, and quality reports
- Support onboarding and training of new annotators, ensuring consistent understanding of project guidelines
Educational Requirements:
Additional Requirements:
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on image annotation or data labeling experience
- At least 1 year of experience leading or supervising annotation teams
- Strong proficiency in Supervisely (strongly preferred), CVAT, Label Studio, Roboflow, Labelbox, or equivalent annotation platforms
- Extensive experience with semantic segmentation, instance segmentation, polygon annotation, and bounding-box annotation
- Strong understanding of annotation quality assurance processes and review workflows
- Ability to interpret, communicate, and enforce detailed annotation guidelines
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
Nice to have:
- Experience managing industrial, manufacturing, or flat-material image annotation projects (textiles, film, paper, etc.)
- Familiarity with defect classes such as wrinkles, folds, holes, ink contamination, scratches, or surface anomalies
- Understanding of computer vision and machine learning data preparation workflows
- Experience developing annotation guidelines or training documentation
- Experience working with distributed annotation teams and QA workflows
