Job Context:
Riseup Labs is seeking a senior Business Process Specialist to support process analysis and optimization as input into AI-enabled automation delivery. This role focuses on validating “future state” process definitions, challenging assumptions, ensuring feasibility within the enterprise ecosystem, and enabling measurable business outcomes. The Business Process Specialist will work closely with business stakeholders, architecture, and the engineering pod to ensure automation efforts target the highest-impact processes and are implementable end-to-end.
Job Responsibilities:
• Engage with business stakeholders to understand prioritized processes, expected outcomes, and operational constraints.
• Review and challenge proposed “optimized process” definitions to ensure feasibility, completeness, and alignment (exceptions, controls, edge cases, and handoffs).
• Translate process intent into structured delivery artifacts (user stories, acceptance criteria, success metrics, and implementation assumptions).
• Support prioritization by assessing effort vs impact, feasibility, dependencies, and risk within technical constraints.
• Distinguish between deterministic logic (standard automation) and probabilistic reasoning (AI-enabled automation) to set realistic stakeholder expectations and define appropriate decision boundaries.
• Perform rapid “automation discovery” by identifying high-ROI candidates through analysis of ticket volumes, manual touchpoints, exception rates, and operational pain signals.
• Identify failure points that typically prevent automation success (unclear ownership, missing data inputs, exception volume, policy conflicts).
• Collaborate with AI Engineers, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and Deployment Engineers to ensure requirements are actionable and execution-ready.
• Align stakeholders on measurable outcomes (cycle time reduction, ticket reduction, productivity gains, cost reduction, and where applicable revenue impact).
• Ensure automation candidates have clear operating assumptions and decision rules (what is automated vs what requires human approval).
• Support change enablement by driving clarity on “to-be” workflow adoption requirements and business sign-off expectations.
Educational Requirements:
Additional Requirements:
Preferred / Nice to Have (Senior Differentiators) :
• Experience supporting automation and workflow transformation programs (ticket reduction, service operations improvement, back-office automation).
• Familiarity with the practical realities of implementation constraints (data availability, system limitations, integration effort, exception handling).
• Experience working with high-volume operations environments where process variance and exceptions are common.
• Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma or structured continuous improvement methods.
• Familiarity with BPMN concepts and process mapping tools when needed (without treating process mapping as the end goal).
• Experience defining governance practices that prevent uncontrolled automation proliferation (duplicate automations, unclear ownership, inconsistent rules).
Cross-Cutting Expectations:
• Outcome-first mindset and disciplined prioritization.
• High ownership and accountability for clarity, feasibility, and measurable impact.
• Ability to work effectively across business stakeholders, architecture, and engineering delivery teams.
• Structured execution, clear documentation, and fast decision-making support.
Success Measures (Examples):
• Processes entering delivery are feasible, measurable, and aligned to business outcomes.
• Reduced delivery friction through clear requirements, defined exceptions, and validated acceptance criteria.
• Improved automation success rates by preventing low-feasibility or low-impact initiatives from entering build phases.
• Business stakeholders aligned on future-state processes, adoption expectations, and sign-off criteria.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize initiatives based on impact and implement ability, enabling visible outcomes within early delivery checkpoints.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and “kill” low-feasibility or low-ROI automation candidates early, saving engineering capacity for high-impact delivery.
